Mit diesem Band präsentiert die GAP eine Auswahl der Sektionsvorträge, die auf der 4. internationalen Tagung der GAP "Argument & Analyse" im September 2000 in Bielefeld gehalten wurden. Alle hier abgedruckten Beiträge sind aus den eingesandten Vorträgen hervorgegangen; die Vorträge der eingeladenen Sprecher werden Anfang 2002 in gedruckter Form beim mentis Verlag publiziert. Mit dieser Publikation beschreiten wir neue Wege: Zum einen erschien uns die Veröffentlichung in gedruckter Form nicht mehr zeitgemäß; deshalb erscheint die Sammlung der Sektionsvorträge zum ersten Mal ausschließlich als elektronisches Buch im Internet sowie auf einer CD-ROM. Wir glauben, dass auch bei der Publikation in dieser Form eine weite Verbreitung und eine rege Diskussion der Beiträge garantiert ist. Zum anderen haben wir die traditionelle Form eines – wenn auch elektronischen – Buches gewählt, um deutlich zu machen, dass wir uns strikt an die Standards konventioneller Publikationen gehalten haben. So ist dieser Band – wie jedes andere Buch auch – bei der Deutschen Bibliothek registriert und entsprechend mit einer ISBN-Nummer versehen. Dazu werden die versammelten Aufsätze in vergleichbarer Länge, einheitlichem Layout und mit einer zitierfähigen, fortlaufenden Seitenzählung präsentiert. Schließlich sind sie alle in einem gründlichen Bewertungsverfahren durch die Sektionsleiter aus den insgesamt 150 Sektionsvorträgen ausgewählt worden.

This volume contains a selection of the papers read in the sections of the 4^th international conference organised by the German Society for Analytic Philosophy (GAP). This conference entitled "Argument & Analysis" took place in Bielefeld (Germany) in September 2000. All papers published here have evolved from contributions submitted for the conference; the papers read by the invited speakers will be published in a separate printed volume by the mentis publishing company in the beginning of 2002. With this publication we break new ground: We do believe, on the one hand, that a publication in conventional, printed form is out of step with modern academic practice; which is why this collection will exclusively be published as an electronic book on the internet. We believe that the publication’s electronic form will just as well ensure wide circulation of, and lively debate about, the papers it contains. We do, on the other hand, hold on to the traditional form of an – albeit electronic – book in order to underscore the fact that we have adhered to the strict standards of conventional publishing. This volume has a registered ISBN-number. The papers assembled are of comparable length and uniform layout; and their consecutive page-numbering ensures quotability. We would finally like to stress that all papers included here have been meticulously chosen for publication out of a totality of 150 papers read at the conference.
